CODOTUA
CODOTUA
Is in function in Balham south London for roughly seven months between the XX and XXI century. It has been a place for meeting, socializing and production among creative thought around the issue of the Periphery. The periphery of the metropolis, the periphery of communication and of the thought it self, to be clear the part of the thought which is unclear even for us.
Codotua takes birth also as challenge, a race against time: the hosting garage was available for just two months (the exactly bureaucratic timing for the planning permission, the former auto garage had to be converted in a house studio for artists and myself was the architect engaged for the project).
Codotua doesn’t try to put roots in the district, it is only a trial, for a limited time, to race a discussion on topics which are in the peripheral mind of the citizens of Balham .
Codotua has gusted 7 artists for seven weeks of show. Opening was taking place every Thursday, and the Sunday brunch was consolidating the work with possibilities of interaction between guests and the artists.
Tuesday-Thursday were hard days for dismantling and rebuilding the new show.
The very first opening took place with the work of a local artist, Mark Almond. The installation of several ready-made masterpieces
Maivandi showed two dozens of black & white pictures of a reportage in Afghanistan. In his journey with a group of Koran students he has pictured strong contrast between the poor landscape and the proud eyes of the population.
Very impressive the work of Giacomo Faiella. 26 Humour of the Tongue is part of the artist’s research on the unseen. A meticulous construction of a Font trough the research of the basis of the language. Faiella works on the communication parallel he is deeply involved in the trial of showing what is impossible to find out one man alone. A difficult and elaborated process, mastic for dentist, electrolysis for metal transformation, printing for mass communication.
